Short version: I collect the details you send me so I can reply to you and do the work. I don't sell them, share them with installers without asking you first, or send you marketing you didn't ask for.
Who I am
Simon Pritchard, trading as Sy the Solar Guy, based in Bookham, Surrey KT23. Contact: sy@sythesolarguy.co.uk. I am the data controller for information collected through this site.
What I collect
- From the enquiry form: your name, email, phone number, postcode, and whatever you write in the message box.
- If you become a client: your property address, half-hourly electricity consumption data, tariff details, existing system details and photographs of the site.
- Automatically: nothing beyond standard server logs, plus privacy-first visitor statistics from Cloudflare Web Analytics. That records page views and rough location at country level only. No cookies, no fingerprinting, no individual tracking, which is why this site has no cookie banner. This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies.
Why I collect it, and the legal basis
- To answer your enquiry and quote for work. Legitimate interests, and steps taken at your request prior to entering a contract.
- To design your system. Performance of a contract.
- To keep records for tax and insurance. Legal obligation.
Consumption data
Half-hourly consumption data says a lot about your household. When you're in, when you're asleep, when you're away. I treat it accordingly. It's used only to design and model your system, it isn't shared with installers or suppliers, and it's deleted on request.
Who else sees it
- Installers: only if you've asked me to tender your job, and only the technical specification and site details needed to quote. Never your consumption data or contact details without your say-so.
- Service providers: the form on this site is processed by Formspree, email is handled by Google Workspace, and the site is hosted by Cloudflare. All three process data on my instructions.
- Nobody else. I don't sell or rent data to anyone, and I don't pass details to lead-generation networks.
How long I keep it
Enquiries that don't go anywhere: deleted after 12 months. Client records: kept for 7 years for tax and professional-liability purposes, as recommended for design and inspection work.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask me for a copy of what I hold, ask me to correct it, ask me to delete it, or object to how I'm using it. Email me and I'll deal with it within a month. If you're not happy with how I've handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If this policy changes materially I'll update the date at the top.
